Suck-it-up Supergreen Smoothie

The morning after the night before is always pretty horrific; sometimes even making you question whether your night was worth the hangover. I was renowned for my hangovers, which seemed more often than not to last a whole day…I was never prepared with the perfect hangover foods to help me through the day, but I never had the appetite anyway.
After starting to drink my Spinach & Supergreens Smoothie on a daily basis, and recognizing how wholly nutritious it actually was I figured this must be the ultimate weekend hangover cure…Perhaps its green and frothy appearance wont look remotely appetizing while your stomach is still contemplating whether it wants to throw up or not, but I can assure you your body is crying out for this smoothie, and what’s more… it actually tastes really nice!
First of all your body needs to rehydrate and replace those electrolytes you’ve lost as a result of alcohols diuretic effect. Instead of reaching for those nasty sports energy drinks packed full of artificial additives, food dyes and sugars, you ought to neck back Coconut Water one of the worlds most hydrating drinks. Coconut water contains just as many electrolytes as those sports drinks, but is completely natural and also low in sugar!
Many of our hangover symptoms are thought to be caused by low levels of potassium in the body. Bananas are a fantastic source of potassium, so I always add ½ or even a whole banana to my smoothies.
So a green smoothie may not increase its appeal, but it definitely increases its benefit to your health. The green colour is as a result of both the Spinach and Supergreen Powders that I add to the mix. Loaded with Vitamins (K, A, B6, B2, B3 & C) Iron, Calcium, Copper, Potassium, Magnesium, Folate and much more… while the addition of Spirulina and another Supergreens blend covers an even wider range of vitamins and minerals which your liver needs to detoxify the blood and recover your body from its hungover state.
Ingredients
1 Large handful of fresh Spinach
1 Ripe Banana
30g Protein Powder (I like banana flavoured)
200ml Natural unsweetened Coconut Water
150ml Milk
¼ Cup of full-fat Yogurt
1tsp (heaped) Spirulina Powder
1tsp (heaped) Supergreens Powder
1tsp Chia Seeds
Method…
Simply add all of the ingredients into a smoothie maker or tall blending jug and blend for a few minutes until it is completely smooth. But I would advise not to add the spirulina first, as it can easily get stuck to the bottom of the container and struggle to mix well into the smoothie.
If you don’t want to drink the smoothie all at once, make sure you shake or stir it well before your next ‘sitting’ as the smoothie will begin to separate after 5 minutes or so.
