What's for Dinner...?

The majority of us in Britain are falling short of the recommended intake of oily fish, and as a wonderful source of omega-fatty-acids we’re missing out on the vast array of health benefits they promote. To help get your recommended amount here’s a recipe based on just one of fish, mackerel. What’s more it’s almost always caught wild and is fantastically low cost.

This is one of my favourite dishes, and even if you don’t have a table of six to serve tonight, this curry freezes so nicely. I promise you, with this in the freezer you’ll actually be glad the next evening you don’t have time to cook!

I came across this incredible invention while at a festival in Amsterdam. Unlike the usual UK festivals which offer nothing to the health-conscious consumer, the vendors at DGTL left us spoilt for choice. Fresh food with real ingredients and bursting with flavor. My absolute favorite food vendor at this festival ‘Acai’ made incredible bagels, one of which was a chicken salad and spirulina pesto dressing…absolute treat! The day after I returned home I ran straight to the shops bought a load of basil, spinach, pine nuts and got down to making my own variation.

Spice up your Friday night with this fresh and vibrant chilli and beef dish. If you can handle the hot, chilli can be a great addition to a healthy diet. Some researchers claim that the fiery flavour, resulting from the chilli’s capsaicin content, can help to supress appetite and even raise the body’s metabolic rate – for a short while anyway!

Having placed tarts into a food category of ‘treats for every now and again’, I recently discovered the wonders of the nut based curst! By eliminating the pastry crust you are not only adding another flavour dimension to the tart, but you can also begin to enjoy tarts on a more regular basis without feeling guilty!

In addition to this dish’s incredible mouthwatering flavours, the fact that one of the main ingredients is wild game makes it rather healthy. Unfortunately, we now live in a society that regularly eats meat from animals that have been factory farmed and fed hormones. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that this isn’t going to be the most nutritious food source. However, in contrast game is often sourced from the wild, where the animals have been running free and eating their natural and nutritious diets. It’s consequently leaner and has a higher content of both omega 3 fatty acids and omega 6 fatty acids.
